Terrifically Terrifying Tarantulas

Visit your favorite neighborhood library and come face-to-face with tarantulas during these programs presented by William Lawson. Check the schedule - the first Tarantula program is this Thursday at Franklin Road. Then the program occurs several times all over the city in October, November and December.

Hairy spiders…ick. They terrify me for sure. I don’t even like spiders that aren’t hairy. Have you ever heard of the goliath bird-eating Tarantula Scientist tarantula? It drags its prey to its nest. It can’t chew…so it disolves its prey and then slurps it up…all that’s left is feathers. Yum!

The Seer of Shadows

The Seer of Shadows

Horace is apprenticed to a photographer and is disappointed to find out that part of his job is tricking people into believing ghosts are appearing in their family photographs. His disappointment turns to fear, however, when the image of a dead girl DOES appear in one of his photos. She’s back, and she’s NOT in a good mood. You might want to read this one in the daytime, yes, that’s it, in the daytime. Or maybe with the lights on. Or how about this advice…read this one when you are not alone. As the author Avi says, this story is about shadows, both visible and invisible, that are always lurking near. Oh, man, deliciously spooky from an all-time favorite storyteller.
